Money Monster star is attached to produce and star in the adaptation of New York Times best-selling author Melanie Gideon‘s debut novel for and Gidden Media. is penning the script, from an original draft by .

The dramedy is about a woman in a midlife crisis who agrees to anonymously participate in a survey about marital happiness, only to experience a reawakening through the power of confessing to the mysterious ‘Researcher 101’ who fields her responses.

Gideon’s novel – her first work of adult fiction – was first published in 2012 by Ballantine Books. Tonally similar to Bridget Jones Diary, the story unfolds through a series of Facebook status updates, Google searches, and questionnaires, satirizing the cultural obsession with the internet and the ease with which we reveal things to strangers, but not to those we love.

Roberts will produce through her Red Om banner with , while , and will produce for Working Title. is producing for Gidden Media, who initially optioned the rights to the book and commissioned the script. Marissa Yeres Gill will oversee for Red Om, will oversee for Working Title, and Chris Ceccotti will oversee for Gidden Media.

The adaptation has been in the works since 2014, but with in the process of finalizing financing, there’s momentum building behind the project. Working Title, which up until recently had an exclusive deal with Universal, now has a first-look and deal with the studio. As of now, the project is not set up at Universal, though the studio may be involved in distribution down the road.

Roberts has been steadily increasing her project slate lately, having recently signed on for the HBO Films project ADX, the legal drama Train Man, and the an adaptation of the play Other Desert Cities. The Oscar-winner will next be seen opposite George Clooney in the aforementioned Money Monster, from director Jodie Foster, and the Garry Marshall comedy Mother’s Day, both due later this year.

Baer’s Gidden Media has numerous projects in the works, including the period drama A Storm In The Stars starring Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams and the adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Forever, Interrupted with Dakota Johnson. Among its many projects in , Working Title is remaking the classic musical Oliver!, while the third installment of the Bridge Jones franchise, Bridget Jones’ Baby, is scheduled for release in September.
