〉 The No One’s Child writer-director was signed in a competitive situation.
Up-and-coming Serbian filmmaker Vuk Ršumovic has officially signed with Jon Kanak of Kanak Management after a competitive situation that saw multiple management companies hoping to land the rising young talent.
Ršumovic’s directorial debut No One’s Child was met with widespread critical acclaim at the 2014 Venice Film Festival, winning the the FIPRESCI Award, Fedeora Award for Best Screenwriter, the Audience Award, as well as the International Critics’ Week Award. The film also made an impression at the Palm Springs International Festival in 2015, winning the New Voices/New Visions Grand Jury Prize.
The script, which Ršumovic also wrote, centers on a wild boy discovered deep in the Bosnian mountains living amongst wolves in the spring of 1988. He is given the name of Haris and sent to an orphanage in Belgrade to be taken care of, where he begins to feel at home. In 1992, in the midst of war, local authorities force him to go back to Bosnia where he is given a rifle and sent to the front line. One night, for the first time in his life, the boy makes a decision entirely of his own.
In addition to No One’s Child, Ršumovic has written and directed numerous shorts and has written for various Serbian TV series including Andrija i Andjelka and Odeljenje.
