Mae Whitman and Brittany Snow have signed on to join the romantic comedy THE EX GAMES from CBS Films. How To Be Single scribes Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein are the latest screenwriters on the project, which is being adapted from Jane Moore’s 2003 novel The Ex Files. Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse helmer Andy Fickman is set to direct.
The story, pitched as Mean Girls meets 27 Dresses, centers on a woman who attends what she thinks is a normal wedding, only to discover that she’s taking part in a crazy and cruel game in which the bride and groom have invited all of their exes — herself included. But the exes decide to team up and turn the tables on the bride and groom.
Whitman is set for the lead, Kate, an executive in the tech industry who agrees to attend her ex-boyfriend’s wedding. Snow plays an ex of a different kind, who also attends the wedding. She was the groom’s first girlfriend, but has since transformed into a less-than-glamorous bitter suburban housewife. Sources say that Veep’s Tony Hale and Idiotsitter’s Jillian Bell are also circling roles.
Whitman is known for her role as Amber Holt in the acclaimed TV drama Parenthood. She also lends her voice to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series and Family Guy. Last year, she starred in the teen comedy The Duff opposite Bella Thorne. Her newest film, Operator made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this month.
Snow started to catch the attention of Hollywood in the feature adaptation of the Broadway musical, Hairspray. She is best known for her role as Chloe in Pitch Perfect franchise which also stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. She is set to return for the third installment of the franchise, currently slated for a 2017 release date. She can also be seen in the upcoming Kevin Pollak-directed comedy Late Bloomer alongside J.K. Simmons and Maria Bello as well as the action pic Bushwick with Dave Bautista.
