F. Gary Gray looks to be the frontrunner in the race to direct FAST & FURIOUS 8. The director is coming off a profitable project for Universal with Straight Outta Compton, and he has positive work experience with Vin Diesel. Gray’s biopic about N.W.A has grossed over $190 million so far, and Gray previously directed Diesel in A Man Apart.
Gray also is a natural choice due to his previous experience with car chases. The Italian Job remake was an F. Gary Gray film, and featured a highly choreographed MINI Cooper chase scene.
It looks like it will come down to producers Vin Diesel and Neal Moritz to have a sit-down and decide whether or not Gray is the right choice. He is repped by UTA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
