Famke Janssen is set to join the indie drama, BARRY, which follows a young Barack Obama during his time as a college student in New York City. She joins newcomer Devon Terrell, who will step into the role of Obama and The Witch’s Anna Taylor-Joy.
The story centers on Obama and the key relationships he made in New York during college, one of the main ones being a fellow student played by Taylor-Joy. Janssen will step into the role of Taylor-Joy’s sophisticated, yet opinionated mother. Ellar Coltrane and Jason Mitchell have also been cast in the film.
Vikram Gandhi will direct the film and will produce along side Teddy Schwarzman and Ben Stillman of Black Bear Pictures and Cinetic Media‘s Dana O’Keefe. Adam Mansbach will write the script.
Janssen is known for her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men movie franchise as well as her work in the Taken franchise. She currently has a recurring role in How To Get Away With Murder and was recently tapped for a spinoff of NBC’s hit show, The Blacklist. She can next be seen in the comedy Going Under opposite Bruce Willis and has signed on to star with Michael Nyqvist in the thriller Every Good Boy Does Fine.
She is repped by ICM and Agence Adequat.
