Former NFL All-Pro tight end Tony Gonzalez is the latest to join Vin Diesel in XXX: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE. D.J. Caruso is set to direct the script from Chad St. John and F. Scott Frazier. Diesel is producing through his One Race Film, along with Roth Kirshenbaum Films, and Revolution Studios.
The story follows Diesel’s character as he comes out of a self-imposed exile to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. At odds with an alpha warrior named Xiang and his team, Cage builds a new team and goes against Xiang in a race to recover the deadly weapon.
Gonzales’s attachment comes amid a wave of recent casting updates to the project, which includes Miss Columbia Adriadna Gutierrez, Kris Wu, Ice Cube, Toni Collette, Deepika Padukone, Donnie Yen, and Samuel L. Jackson.
XXX will mark the feature film debut for Gonzalez. After spending 12 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and 5 with the Atlanta Falcons, Gonzalez retired in 2013, and now serves as an NFL analyst for CBS Sports.
Paramount has announced a release date of Janurary 20, 2017.
Gonzalez is repped by CAA and SMAC.
