With Jon M. Chu out of the equation, Sony has a short list of directors to possibly take the helm on MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.
Based on the TV series of the same name, the film centers on Prince Adam, who, after uttering the magic words “By the power of Grayskull, I have the power,” magically turned into the heroic He-Man, the hero who along with his allies – Battle Cat, Man-at-Arms and Orko – defended the planet Eternia, and their Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor.
Mike Cahill, Chris McKay, Harald Zwart and Jeff Wadlow are all being eyed to direct the project, which is being produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch.
Cahill wrote and directed the 2011 pic “Another Earth” and his film “I Origins” is awaiting release. He is with WME.
McKay serves as an editor and director for “Robot Chicken” and was an editor on “The Lego Movie.” He is repped by UTA.
Zward directed the rebooted “Karate Kid” film as well as “Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.” He is repped by CAA.
Wadlow directed “Cry Wolf” and “Never Back Down” and is coming off of “Kick-Ass 2.” Like Cahill, he is repped by WME.
