Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Phyllis Nagy has been tapped to pen the UNTITLED KAY SCARPETTA FILM at Fox 2000. Created by Patricia Cornwell, the character of Scarpetta, a medical examiner who solves crimes with modern forensic technique, first appeared in the 1990 novel Postmortem. She has since appeared in two dozen best-selling novels with the most recent being Chaos.
The Scarpetta project has been on the shelf for years and has had numerous writers attached to it including Liz Friedman and Kerry Williamson. At one point, Angelina Jolie was also attached to play the titular character. A director has yet to be attached but Mark Gordon is set to produce.
Nagy earned her Oscar nod for adapting the Todd Haynes-directed Carol starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. She also wrote and directed the Golden Globe-nominated TV movie Mrs. Harris starring Annette Bening and Ben Kingsley.
She is repped by UTA and Casarotto Ramsay & Associates.
