Gotham actress Jamie Chung is swapping DC for Marvel after landing the role of Blink in Fox’s untitled Marvel pilot from Matt Nix and Bryan Singer. She joins previously cast Blair Redford who will play another mutant and team leader.
The series will center on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.
Chung has been cast as Clarice Fong, aka Blink, who is sarcastic, lively, and a bit of a tomboy. Her naturally strong exuberance has taken a hit after a sudden and traumatic upheaval of her life. As she adjusts to the new people and places that are suddenly “home”, she is slowly becoming herself again.
In the comics, Blink was created by writer Scott Lobdell and artist Joe Madureira in the Uncanny X-Men in 1994.She was initially tense and frightened of her powers of teleportation, unable to properly control them, causing anything caught in Blink’s teleportation field to be shredded. She was captured along with several other young mutants by a group called the Phalanx.
Nix wrote the pilot and executive produces alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and Singer. Singer will also direct the pilot.
Chung has had several arcs on other shows including James Gordon’s love interest on Gotham, Mulan on Once Upon a Time, and recently netted a recurring role Hulu’s Casual. She previously starred on NBC’s believe, which was canceled after one season.
She is represented by Gersh and 3 Arts Entertainment.
