Under the cover of darkness, 20th Century Fox announced a slew of release dates on Thursday night, highlighted by six mysterious Marvel titles that will hit theaters between June 2019 and March 2021.
Fox will release Marvel-based titles on June 7 and Nov. 22, 2019; March 13, June 26 and Oct. 2, 2020; and March 5, 2021. It’s interesting to note that there are two films coming out in March, which is the same month that saw the studio have great success with Logan.
The studio has no plans of slowing the momentum of its X-Men universe, with three films already set for 2018 — Deadpool 2, New Mutants and Dark Phoenix. You can safely expect that Deadpool 3 is one of the mystery films Fox just dates, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Dafne Keen, the breakout star of Logan, gets her own X23 spinoff.
Whatever these Marvel movies may be, they are slated to compete for box office dollars against the likes of Sony’s Charlie’s Angels reboot, Disney’s Frozen 2, and a couple of untitled Pixar features.
Meanwhile, Fox also announced it will release Drew Goddard’s Bad Times at the El Royale on Oct. 5, 2018; James Mangold’s The Force on March 1, 2019; and the animated film Nimona on Feb. 14, 2020.
While Fox is moving forward with all of these films, another animated film titled Anubis has been taken off the calendar entirely. Other than that, it seems Fox is prepping a lineup that can hold its own amongst the ever-growing list of superhero movies from Disney, Sony and Warner Bros.
