The highly anticipated 24 reboot, 24: Legacy, just landed itself the best premiere slot on television: right after the Super Bowl. Fox made plenty of series orders for their upcoming schedule, but like Legacy, the bulk of them will be waiting until mid-season to premiere. Of the sex dramas, three comedies, two event series, and two reality shows, only three will premiere this fall. The trio includes Lethal Weapon, The Exorcist, and hybrid comedy Son Of Zorn. Execs Gary Newmand Dana Walden touted that this year is the most stable schedule in the past four years, with few changes to the weekly schedule.
Lethal Weapon, starring Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, has been paired with Empire on Wednesday nights, with the team shirking off any fears they may have of not living up to the classic film. Zorn has naturally landed just after The Simpsons on Sunday nights, and midseason will swap out with Making History. Both comedies hail from Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
While they may not have had many cancellations, Fox’s many orders show a commitment to fill every week in the year. The presentation reminded audience that will so much competition, it is necessary to have consistent original programming, with as few repeats as possible, in order to retain viewers.
