Comedy and star power align for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s FORTUNATELY, THE MILK. With a script already set from Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie, Edgar Wright has agreed to direct and Johnny Depp is onboard to star for a package that looks too enticing for Fox to turn down. The talks are early, but the chances are good considering the source material and the talent behind the adaptation.
Depp will also produce alongside Animal Logic Entertainment, the animation house behind The Lego Movie. The film is being pitched as a hybrid of animation and live-action, which (in the original story) follows the fantastical tales of a father who stepped out to get some milk at the store.
Depp has two films in the can right now, just as his Whitey Bulger biopic is finishing its theatrical run – Alice Through the Looking Glass and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tall No Tales. He is repped by UTA.
Wright is starting pre-production on his mysterious film, Baby Driver. He is repped by CAA, Independent Talent in the UK, and Anonymous Content.
McKenzie is repped by UTA.
Gaiman is repped by CAA.
