The pic’s title comes from the growing national phenomenon of “dead malls.” Thanks to the dual hit of online shopping and a major recession, second tier malls struggled to survive. Now scattered across the country are scores of empty shuttered malls, abandoned to fall into disrepair. The comedy, set in one of these abandoned malls, follows an ensemble of 40-year old men and women trying to escape a slasher film-quality killer.
Along with Alexander Payne, Faxon and Rash won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Descendants. The duo also wrote and directed Sundance hit The Way Way Back. Faxon is repped by CAA and Principato Young. Rash is repped by CAA and Primary Wave Entertainment.
Walsh produced Manchester By The Sea, written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan. Casey Affleck, Gretchen Mol, Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler star in the pic, which premieres Saturday at Sundance.
