Fox is bringing back to life. The adaptation of Justin Cronin’s vampire novel, which was developed off-cycle last season, has been reconceived and will be reshot as a new pilot.

Marcus Siega, who was attached to direct the original version of the pilot last year, is no longer with the project and Jason Ensler has come aboard to direct the additional material.

Additionally, changes are being made to the story, and subsequently BJ Britt, Jennifer Ferrin and Genesis Rodriguez have exited the project after their characters were axed from the new pilot.

Original cast members Vincent Piazza, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Saniyya Sidney and Brianne Howey still remain on board.

In her reconception of the pilot, writer Elizabeth Heldens has created three new characters -Dr. Tim Fanning, Dr. Major Nichole Sykes and Dr. Lila Kyle – and casting for these roles is currently underway.

Based on Cronin’s best-selling trilogy of the same name, The Passage is described as an epic, character-driven thriller about a secret government medical facility experimenting with a dangerous virus that could either cure all disease or cause the downfall of the human race. The series focuses on a 10-year-old girl named Amy Bellafonte (Sidney), who is chosen to be a test subject for this experiment and Brad Wolgast, the Federal agent who becomes her surrogate father as he tries to protect her.

The new The Passage will be reshot in time for schedule decisions about the 2018-19 season in May.
