In a competitive situation, Fox Searchlight has won THE AFTERMATH, the adaptation of the 2013 novel by Rhidian Brook. Ridley Scott is producing through his Scott Free Pictures with BBC Films. Race screenwriters Anna Waterhouse and Joe Schrapnel have been brought on to adapt the book which has James Kent attached to direct. Keira Knightley and Alexander Skarsgard are in talks to star.
The story is set in the British Occupied Zone of Hamburg in 1946, where an English colonel who has requisitioned a house for his family agrees to share it with the German owners, which creates a charged atmosphere.
According to author Brook, Scott and BBC originally commissioned a screenplay based on his grandfather’s experiences in post-war Germany. While writing the screenplay, he also worked on the book, which was ultimately sold to publishers around the world.
Rhidian is repped by Felicity Bryan Associates.
