Bobby Cannavale and Nia Long are in negotiations to join SPY, Melissa McCarthy’s action comedy written and directed by Paul Feig. The comedy spy flick, previously titled “Susan Cooper” will follow the misadventures of Susan Cooper (played by McCarthy), a CIA analyst who goes into the field to find the person who killed her lover.
Jude Law is attached to play the lover, a suave super spy, while Jason Statham will play a confident but blundering spy. If they sign on, Cannavale will play an Italian playboy villain and Long will be the head of the CIA.
Cannavale is known for his lighter roles in “The Station Agent” and 2004’s remake of “Shall We Dance.” He won an Emmy for his roles on “Boardwalk Empire” and “Nurse Jackie.” Long recently appeared in “The Best Man Holiday” and “Are We There Yet?” She’ll reprise her role for the “Best Man” sequel.
