New Girl star Jake Johnson is developing single-camera comedy CATALINA with his home network Fox. Johnson penned the pilot with Max Winkler and Mary Fitzgerald. The project is described as Weekend at Bernie’s set on Catalina island.
The series centers on a carefree party-girl bartender who has never left her hometown on the island of Catalina, and who is forced to finally take on the responsibilities of adulthood after the death of her mother. With the help of her estranged political father, she discovers that perhaps her true calling is to run for mayor of her eclectic island community.
Winkler, Johnson, and Fitzgerald will executive produce alongside Jason Carden.
This is the second project for Winkler and Johnson this development season. The pair also have House Sitter set up at Fox which centers on a house sitter who lives life according to his own set of rules. The duo will again executive produce with Carden.
Fitzgerald is an executive producer on ABC’s Dr. Ken and her previous credits include Cougar Town, Mom, Bad Judge, and Lucky Louie.
