Announced last August, the untitled Netflix romantic comedy project starring Randall Park and Ali Wong has found its director in Park’s Fresh Off the Boat showrunner Nahnatchka Khan, who will make her feature directorial debut.
Khan and Park have been regular collaborators on the hit ABC sitcom which Park created, and which she writes and exec. produces as well as having directed a few episodes. (Khan also directed a few episodes of her previous show Don’t Trust the B– in Apartment 23, which starred Krysten Ritter.) Wong is currently a writer for the show, which has been reupped for a fourth season.
The script for the Netflix rom-com was written by Wong, Park and Michael Golamco, telling the story of childhood sweethearts who have a falling out and don’t speak for 15 years, but reconnects when they run into each other by chance.
Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman of Good Universe are producing, along with Wong and Park. Brendan Ferguson is an exec. producer while Golamco and Brady Fujikawa of Good Universe are co-producing.
Plans are to start filming in Vancouver and San Francisco in May during the down months before Fresh Off the Boat restarts for the fall season.
Park will next be seen in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp, plus he will appear in Seth Rogen’s Flarky — Park makes regular appearances in Rogen’s films including Neighbors — as well as MGM’s remake of Valley Girl.
Wong is currently shooting ABC’s other sitcom American Housewives, but the stand-up comic broke big when Netflix premiered her stand-up special Baby Cobra.
Khan is repped by WME.
