“Fruitvale Station” Breakout Star Melonie Diaz Cast as One of Three Leading Ladies in “Charmed” Reboot

The CW’s reboot has cast Fruitvale Station breakout star as one of its three leading ladies.

The reboot that is being described as fierce, funny, and a feminist reboot centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.

Diaz will play Mel, one of the three sisters who is described as a passionate, outspoken activist who loses her way in the wake of a family tragedy. She joins Ser’ Darius Blain in the Charmed cast.

Jane the Virgin scribe Amy Radin and Jessica O’Toole penned the script with a story by Jennie Urman. The trio is exec producing the CBS Television Studios drama alongside Ben Silverman. Brad Silberling is set to direct the pilot episode.

Diaz is best known for her work in Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station. Her other credits include last years The Belko Experiment, and the Amazon feature Gringo. She previously worked on the TV shows Room 104, Nip/Tuck, and The Breaks. She is represented by .
