The exciting new spec HUMMINGBIRD from John McClain has landed at Fundamental Films after heating up the film market and getting the attention of several major studios and production companies. Swedish directing team Marcus Kryler and Fredrik Akerstrom is attached to direct the action flick, with Broken Road Productions co-producing.
The Tracking Board first broke the news the spec was out to multiple territories, with Broken Road leading the way.
Following a black-ops assassin, the script is being compared to Orphan Black and Lucy. The assassin’s latest mark forces her to question the truth of her identity, and ultimately confront the unsettling fact that she’s more than a hired gun, she’s an entirely new breed of weapon. It’s also the start of a potential franchise.
Kryler and Akerstrom have been generating a lot of buzz recently for directing the new video game Battlefield 1, which was released last week. The Tracking Board’s Dino-Ray Ramos interviewed them about the project and their insight as creative visionaries show why they’re exciting new names in the entertainment industry. Their direction of Battlefied 1 ,and the fact that it became the most liked trailer in the history of YouTube within three days reveals promise for their leadership on Hummingbird.
Previously, Fundamental produced films like this year’s Kevin Spacey comedy Nine Lives and 2013’s The Family. They currently have the highly anticipated sci-fi adaptation Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets awaiting release.
