Emerging actor Gabriel Chavarria has just landed a central role in the upcoming WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES–the third installment of the iconic franchise’s reboot from Twentieth Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment.
Chavarria will play one of two human leads in the sci-fi action pic, with this film exploring the fallout of a war sparked at the end of 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
According to director Matt Reeves, who is returning after helming Dawn to a successful stint at the box office, War once again focuses on Caesar, the leader of the primate rebellion, and will “cement his status as a seminal figure in ape history… he will become a mythical ape figure, like Moses.” Like James Franco and Jason Clarke before him, Chavarria’s role should give the actor an opportunity to shine as one of the story’s only non-CGI characters with a fully realized arc.
Chavarria is best known for work in the Hulu original series East Los High, and recently appeared in NBC’s summer mini-series Aquarius. He will next be seen in 2016’s Low Riders, starring Melissa Benoist and Eva Longoria, which is being produced by Blumhouse and Imagine.
Chavarria is repped by Paradigm and Momentum.
