The official Star Wars website made a big announcement today with the news that Emilia Clarke has joined the cast of the highly anticipated UNT. HAN SOLO SPINOFF film. No word has been revealed about the role but reports have already begun speculating that she has won the female lead.
“StarWars.com is excited to announce that Clarke, known for her stirring portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures,” said the announcement.
Clarke joins previously cast Alden Ehrenreich, in the role made famous by Harrison Ford, and Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian. The film takes place prior to the original trilogy. Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott have previously tested for the female lead role but it is unknown if Clarke’s role is the same or another character.
The highly anticipated film is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and will be released in 2018.
In addition to Game of Thrones, Clarke also starred in Terminator Genisys in the role originated by Linda Hamilton, and in the romantic drama Me Before You.
