New production company Cristal Pictures has acquired IMAGO from writers Gavin Heffernan and Adam Robitel. The project is based on a pitch from the duo which is science-fiction disaster tale, inspired by scientific research and data, that takes place in the near future when scientific experiments to reverse global warming backfire and portend unimaginable consequences.
Cristal is planning on developing Imago, which is currently the working title, into a large scale film. The movie will include Western and Chinese actors and is slated to shoot in and around Hong Kong.
Cristal was founded by Beijing and Hong Kong-based media company East Light Film Company. They are set to co-finance and co-produce the Millennium Films action-comedy Hitman’s Bodyguard starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Salma Hayek.
Robitel recently wrapped directing the horror Insidious: Chapter 4, which is set to open in theaters in 2017. He also co-wrote the Bryan Singer-produced documentary-style horror pic The Taking Of Deborah Logan with Heffernan.
