George Clooney is in negotiations to direct Joel and Ethan Coen’s latest script, SUBURBICON, to be produced by Joel Silver through Tristar Pictures. The story is a small town period noir, in the vein of their early breakout films Blood Simple and Fargo, this time set in the 1950s.
Clooney and the Coen Brothers have formed a strong working relationship over the years, through films like O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty, to their latest project, Hail, Caesar!–also, incidentally, set in the 1950s. Clooney makes up part of the ensemble cast in the Coen’s farce that includes Ralph Fiennes, Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson. You can watch the trailer here.
Clooney, who has won two Oscars–one for Best Supporting Actor for Syriana, another as a producer of Ben Affleck’s Best Picture Winner Argo–has been nominated in the Directing category for his work on Good Night, and Good Luck.
In addition to having recently completed filming on Caesar, the Coen Brothers serve as executive producers on Noah Hawley’s FX adaptation of their 1996 hit Fargo.
