HBO’s sister channel Cinemax has ordered a script for George R.R. Martin’s SKIN TRADE. The novella is considered to be one of the best pieces of werewolf fiction, having won a World Fantasy Award in 1989.
The show will follow a collections agent who happens to be a werewolf, and his friend, a private investigator, discover a dark secret behind a series of grisly murders in their decaying industrial city.
Martin made the announcement via his blog on Saturday, which will surely send his fans and critics into a frenzy, as there are entire sites dedicated to tracking Martin’s posts and pointing out how much time he is supposedly spending not writing. Since Martin’s star has risen with the series Game of Thrones, Martin’s schedule has become packed with appearances and interviews; he’s stated that he’s needed to cancel appearances in order to make time to write the next book in the A Song of Fire and Ice saga.
Perhaps due to Martin’s limited time, Kalinda Vazquez has been brought on to write the script. Vazquez’s credits include Once Upon a Time and Nikita. She is repped at WME.
