Studios continue to look overseas for directing talent and German-born filmmaker Christian Ditter, who directed 2016’s How to Be Single, continues to work with New Line, as the studio has tapped him to direct the sci-fi thriller Stillwater, the Tracking Board confirms.
Beauty and the Beast scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos has been hired to write the script for the movie that was developed in-house at New Line with the premise being kept a secret for now.
Beau Flynn will produce along with Scott Sheldon overseeing for FlynnPictureCo, whose next movie will be Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage, which New Line will release on April 20.
Ditter began his career in Germany with short films, and his directorial debut French for Beginners was a German box office hit in 2006. That was followed by an adaptation of the children’s book The Crocodiles and its sequel The Crocodiles Strike Back, which Ditter wrote and directed. After writing and directing the 3D film Vickie and the Treasure of the Gods, Ditter shifted over to English language films with 2014’s Love Rosie, starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin.
After directing the 2016 rom-com How to Be Single, starring Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson, Ditter directed and exec. produced episodes of Netflix’s series Girlboss. Ditter also has a treatment for a project called States of Emergency set-up at New Line.
