DreamWorks’ GHOST IN THE SHELL will now be released by Paramount Pictures, who are also co-financing. The live-action adaptation of the best-selling Japanese sci-fi franchise is keeping its March 31, 2017 release date. The move away from Disney comes after Steven Spielberg left the studio and went to Universal.
The pic centers on a special ops cyborg who leads a counter-cyberterrorist organization devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists. Ghost in the Shell reunites Scarlett Johansson and Pilou Asbaek, who starred together in Lucy. Rupert Sanders is directing.
Created by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell was first published in 1989 and went on to generate two additional manga editions, three anime film adaptations, an anime TV series, and three videogames.
