Rising star Gillian Jacobs is in early talks for the female lead in Morgan Neville’s A BEAUTIFUL GAME, the first narrative feature from the Oscar-winning documentary director behind 20 Feet From Stardom, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
Maurizio Grimaldi is producing the film, which was written by Casual creator Zander Lehmann.
A Beautiful Game is a coming-of-age story about a high school soccer star who develops a relationship with a teacher (Jacobs) in the days leading up to an important game.
The film is described as being similar to Election in tone, which makes sense, since it will be produced by Alexander Payne’s Ad Hominem banner. The project used to be set up at Focus, but that studio is no longer involved.
Community alum Jacobs currently stars on the Netflix series Love, and she’ll soon be seen in the indie film Lemon with Michael Cera and Judy Greer. Jacobs has also wrapped Disney’s Magic Camp and the Melissa McCarthy comedy Life of the Party, and she’s about to begin filming the Netflix movie Ibiza.
Jacobs is represented by UTA, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and attorney James Feldman, and a representative for the actress declined to comment.
