Some of you may know the saying: Behind every great man, there’s a great woman. This saying is at the forefront of Glenn Close’s drama THE WIFE, which is already gaining Oscar buzz.
Adapted from Meg Wolitzer’s novel of the same name, The Wife follows Close as Joan Castleman, a highly intelligent and the perfectly devoted wife. She has spent forty years sacrificing her own talent, dreams, and ambitions to boast her husbands literary career. After years of ignoring her husbands infidelities and excuses because of his art, Joan reaches her breaking point. On the eve of Joe’s Nobel Prize for Literature, Joan must confront the biggest sacrifice of her life and the secrets of his career.
The film is directed by Swedish filmmaker Björn Runge and held its world premiere at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, where Close earned rave reviews for her performance. Sources say the film’s release date was pushed back to 2018 to avoid the stiff competition from last years crowded best actress race.
The Wife opens in Los Angeles and New York August 3, with a nationwide rollout to follow. Watch the trailer below.
