Gollum Goes to “The Jungle”

“Lord of the Rings” actor will helm the Warner Bros. live action pic . The new film will be a darker take on the Rudyard Kipling classic children’s book.

Both Ron Howard and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu were attached to direct but dropped out due to scheduling, leading Warner Bros. to set its sights on a lesser known name. While this will be ’ directorial debut, he’s had on the training with Peter Jackson’s two Hobbit films as a second unit director.

Don’t confuse this film with the Disney live action project also in the works. That one will be led by Jon Favreau and star Idris Elba as the tiger Shere Khan.

Although you probably don’t recognize him through the CGI, Serkis played Gollum in “Lord of the Rings” and Caesar in the most recent reboot of “Planet of the Apes.”
