Both Ron Howard and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu were attached to direct but dropped out due to scheduling, leading Warner Bros. to set its sights on a lesser known name. While this will be Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, he’s had on the job training with Peter Jackson’s two Hobbit films as a second unit director.
Don’t confuse this film with the Disney live action project also in the works. That one will be led by Jon Favreau and star Idris Elba as the tiger Shere Khan.
Although you probably don’t recognize him through the CGI, Serkis played Gollum in “Lord of the Rings” and Caesar in the most recent reboot of “Planet of the Apes.”
Serkis is repped by CAA.
