Just two days after director James Gunn took to social media to discuss the success of Deadpool, the creator is back again but this time it is to announce the start of principal photography of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 today at Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios. He posted the above photo in the announcement via his Instagram and Facebook pages. Gunn also confirmed the casting of Kurt Russell, citing his love of the Russell-starring film The Strongest Man In The World.
Joining Russell are previous stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Benicio Del Toro, and Karen Gillan as well as new castmembers Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Pom Klementieff.
The film continues the team’s adventures as they set out to solve the mystery of Peter Quill’s father. Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige while Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda, and Stan Lee executive produce. Gunn is director from his own script. The film is set to bow May 2017.
Russell starred in last year’s The Hateful Eight from Quentin Tarantino and Furious 7. He will star later this year in Deepwater Horizon.
