Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy and Joe Mazzello have been cast as Queen members Brian May (lead guitar), Roger Taylor (drums) and John “Deacy” Deacon (bass guitar) in Bryan Singer’s BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, it was announced Monday.
Rami Malek is set to star as Queen singer Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991 at age 45 due to complications from AIDS.
Singer is directing from a script by Justin Haythe, and he’s also producing along with Graham King of GK Films and Jim Beach. New Regency’s Arnon Milchan will executive produce along with Denis O’Sullivan and Jane Rosenthal. 20th Century Fox executive Kira Goldberg will oversee the project for the studio.
Bohemian Rhapsody will start production this fall, as the film is slated for release on Dec. 25, 2018.
Hardy is the EastEnders star best known on the big screen for playing Angel in Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. He’ll soon be seen in the firefighter drama Only the Brave and the period indie Mary Shelley.
Lee’s credits include The Hollow Crown and Jamestown, while Mazzello is the child star of Jurassic Park, The River Wild and Radio Flyer who grew up to have roles in The Social Network and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
