Haley Joel Osment To Lead Comedy “Jay Berger Wants To Be Your Friend”

has been tapped to star in the indie comedy , directed by first-timer Josh Goldsmith. Plot details are primarily kept hush, but the project is being pitched as an R-rated comedy following Osment as a guy who loves his old summer camp too much. Goldsmith also penned the with longtime partner Cathy Yuspa, who together are known for scripting 13 Going On 30 and What Women Want. Paul Bernon and Sam Slater of Burn Later Productions will produce the pic, which was sold on spec in the fall.

Osment has been experiencing a career renaissance, appearing in the indie comedy Sex Ed, co-starring opposite Justin Long in Kevin Smith’s horror/comedy Tusk, starring opposite Jeremy Irvine in the thriller The World Made Straight, and starring in Entourage, which just bowed earlier this month.

He’ll next reunite with Kevin Smith for the director’s horror/holiday anthology Anti-Claus and the teen horror Yoga Hosers, which co-stars Johnny Depp and Veep‘s Tony Hale. He’ll also return for IFC’s comedy series The Spoils Of Babylon, after appearing in season one, and Amazon’s Alpha House, on which he recurs.
