After it took months to find the actor for young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s UNTITLED HAN SOLO STAR WARS SPINOFF PROJECT (expected to formally be titled Han Solo: A Star Wars Story after the Rogue One title), which eventually went to up and comer Alden Ehrenreich, Walt Disney Studios is now testing for the female lead.
Reports say they’re looking at young actors like Naomi Scott (Power Rangers), Tessa Thompson (Creed), and Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road), with production slated to begin in early 2017.
The search for young Lando Calrissian, one of Han’s friends played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, is still ongoing as well. Atlanta creator and star Donald Glover is still at the top of the list and more screen tests are continuing to happen.
Given the popularity of the character, this is one of the most anticipated films in Lucasfilm’s extensive slate, which sees a film from the main storyline coming out every other year (beginning with last year’s The Force Awakens) and spinoff films premiering in the years between.
The film is being written by Jon and Lawrence Kasdan, with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy producing. It’s set to premiere on May 25, 2018.
