After months of speculation, Disney and Lucasfilm have announced fan-favorite actor Donald Glover has officially landed the role of Lando Calrissian in their upcoming UNTITLED HAN SOLO STAR WARS SPINOFF PROJECT. Christopher Miller and Phil Lord are directing the film, the second spinoff Star Wars movie, following this year’s Rogue One.
Glover joins the previously cast Alden Ehrenreich in the role of Han Solo. In the original trilogy, Lando was played by Billy Dee Williams and it was revealed he lost the famed Millennium Falcon to Han (which some sources say will be explored in this film).
“These are big shoes to fill,” said Lord and Miller in a statement. “And an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
Fans, however, will certainly be excited to see him at conventions. They had lobbied for him to land the role of Spider-Man before it ultimately went to Andrew Garfield (although Glover ended up voicing Miles Morales on the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man and he has a secret role in the next live-action Spidey movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming with Tom Holland in the role of the webslinger).
Glover first gained attention for his role on Troy Barnes on Community and has most recently received plenty of praise for creating and starring in the freshman FX series Atlanta.
