Adapted by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini from Eleanor Henderson’s novel of the same name, the film follows Jude (Butterfield), a young boy with a drug addiction sent to live with his pot-dealing father Les (Hawke) in 1987 Manhattan. He soon discovers an underground hardcore punk yet drug-intolerant culture and through it attempts to clean himself up.
Berman and Pulcini are also helming the project. Anne Carey and Amy Nauiokas are producing for Archer Gray Productions, while Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray will be producing for Maven Pictures. Luca Borghese is also on the producer roster.
Hawke was last seen in Courtney Solomon’s “Getaway” and Richard Linklater’s “Before Midnight” which he co-wrote with Linklater, Kim Krizan and Julie Delpy. He’ll next appear in “Cymbeline”, “Predestination” and “Seymour: An Introduction.” Butterfield was last in “Ender’s Game” and will next be seen in “X Plus Y”, “King of the Kastle” and “The White Circus.”
Hawke and Butterfield are repped by CAA.
