Word on the tweet (I’m not sorry) has Hayley Atwell joining Kenneth Shakespeare-is-my-spirit-animal Branagh’s CINDERELLA. Now, this won’t be a simple update of Cinderella. No, it’s going to be the “Snow White and the Huntsman” of Cinderella movies. You see, in this version Cinderella must fight her way out of the enchanted forest in order to prevent the prince from entering a marriage that will destroy the kingdom.
No word (or additional tweet) on what role Atwell will play but she joins Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden, Holliday Grainger, Helena Bonham Carter, Sophie McShera, Stellan Skarsgard and Kenneth Branagh.
Chris Weitz (“The Golden Compass”) penned the most recent draft that Branagh will direct. Producing will be Simon Kinberg, Allison Shearmur and David Barron.
Atwell is best known to us ‘yanks’ as Peggy in “Captain America: The First Avenger.” She’ll reprise this role in the upcoming Marvel One-Shot “Agent Carter” and in some capacity (probably flashbacks) in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
