HBO Orders Duplass Brothers’ Animated Comedy “Animals”



HBO has put in a two season order for the animated comedy from Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass. Premiering at Sundance, the pilot garnered attention and a highly positive critical reaction. The series was created by and and pitched with a short to networks before its Sundance premiere. It follows the animals that inhabit NYC,  exploring their very human  struggles and observations. The series will follow different groups of animals, getting their perspective on every day city life.

In response to the series being picked up, Mark Duplass remarked,

Jay and I have been excited about bringing the principles of indie film to the space, and to have our first real experiment land at a place like HBO for two seasons is beyond what we could have imagined.”

As a team, The Duplass Brothers are known for directing Jeff, Who Lives At Home, and producing the indie films The Skeleton Twins and Safety Not Guaranteed. They have created the series Togetherness for HBO, and also write and direct frequent episodes. Mark stars in the series, which was recently picked up for a second season. They own Duplass Brothers Productions.
