UPDATE: The hot spec is igniting a frenzy, now into a third major territory! I can confirm that Davis Entertainment took the spec in 20th Century Fox, where they have a multi-year development deal, just recently renewed this year. Scroll to the bottom to see the complete list of territories!
Paradigm and Madhouse Entertainment have just set a hot new spec on the market and everyone in town is already clamoring for it, with the first territories assigned. The enticing script, FREE FALL, is being pitched as Gravity meets 127 Hours, a description which nabs attention at the onset. Madhouse is producing the project, but sources reveal that they’re looking to partner.
I can confirm that Michael De Luca Productions took the spec into Universal, per their three year first-look deal signed in April, and that Matt Tolmach Productions brought the project into Sony, where they have a first-look deal with Sony offshoot TriStar.
I’m hearing that more territories will be assigned throughout the day, but to expect a hefty buy soon, as the whole town is hot for the spec. Written by breakout scribes Gregg Maxwell Parker and Sean Finegan, the thriller follows a man who joins his estranged daughter on a mountain climb in an attempt to repair their relationship. But, when a tragic accident leaves them stranded hundreds of feet in the air and as a storm sets in, the two must fight against the elements and terrifying heights in order to survive.
Parker and Finegan previously scripted and co-produced the action/thriller Getaway, which starred Academy Award-nominee Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez, and Jon Voight. The emerging duo will next pen the family musical Just My Imagination.
Spec is now into:
Davis Entertainment into Fox
Michael De Luca into Universal
Matt Tolmach into Sony
Stay tuned for more info on this project as it develops!
