David Weil’s new sci-fi spec MOONFALL is getting a lot of attention this week. After going in to to several studios, we’re hearing that Oscar nominated director Darren Aronofsky is showing some real interest in the project. Apparently, Aronofsky read and liked the script but hasn’t yet signed on to produce or direct. He has a first look deal at New Regency, meaning that if his interest is piqued, this spec could be going places – fast. Weil’s last spec script, “Half Heard in the Stillness,” landed on the 2013 Black List. Out from CAA and Unified Management, “Moonfall” is described as a thriller in the vein of “Fargo,” but set on the moon.
Aronofsky is the writer/director behind “Requiem for a Dream” and also directed the Oscar-nominated drama/thriller “Black Swan.” Most recently, Aronofsky wrote, directed, and produced religious action/drama “Noah” for Paramount Pictures.
Aside from his obvious writing chops, Weil is also an actor who has appeared in “The Young and the Restless” and Malcolm Goodwin’s rom-com “Construction.”
