It looks like Helen Mirren is ready to buckle herself in for some Fast and Furious action.
The Academy Award-winning actress is set to appear in FAST 8, the next installment of the high-octane franchise directed by Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray. After months of rumors, Mirren confirmed her involvement in the Universal movie in a recent interview with Elle.
“I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant. I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I’m about to do Fast and Furious 8,” she revealed in the interview. “But that’s for the fun of it. So maybe that’s what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies.”
No details about her role have been revealed, but she will join an all-star roster that includes returning Fast and Furious cast members Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Lucas Black, and Kurt Russell. Charlize Theron is set to play the movie’s main baddie and Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju will be one of her henchmen.
Chris Morgan penned the script and Diesel and Neal Moritz will serve as producers. The movie is slated to open on April 14, 2017 and will pave the way for additional Fast and Furious movies which are expected to fill seats in theaters until 2021.
Mirren recently starred in Eye in the Sky and played famed entertainment journalist Hedda Hopper in Trumbo opposite Bryan Cranston. She can be seen next in David Frankel’s Collateral Beauty.
She is repped by CAA.
