Dave Meyers is in negotiations to direct the Selena Gomez-starrer HOT MESS by writer Jenni Ross; the script received mention on the 2011 Black List. Although we have not read the script, the plot sounds more like a teen-drama than a romantic comedy, as it’s pitched. It follows four girlfriends who make, and then break, a list of rules devised to get the guys of their dreams and discover their inner hot messes in the process. We last reported that Gomez was eyed by the producers to star in the film, and now it appears she is officially attached.
Producers Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Mandy Cornett will share production duties.
Meyers last directed the remake of the 1986 thriller “The Hitcher” starring Sean Bean and Sophia Bush. He is currently attached to direct “Breaking the Box” for Fox, a heist film that follows four sexy female flight attendants who moonlight as thieves, and attempt to pull off the biggest heist of their careers.
