British actor Henry Cavill is trading in his red and blue spandex for a secret agent suit to join Tom Cruise in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6. The actor revealed the news on his Instagram this morning, thanking writer-director Christopher McQuarrie for the invite.
Story details for the film, following up the highly successful Ghost Protocol (2011) and Rogue Nation (2015), are currently under wraps but according to sources, Cavill would appear as a right-hand to the lead of Ethan Hunt’s (Cruise) Impossible Missions Force.
It is expected that previous actors Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and Jeremy Renner will return for this newest installment.
While best known for his turn as Superman in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Cavill does have experience playing a spy. He co-starred alongside Armie Hammer in 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. as American agent Napoleon Solo. Next up, he has the Netflix Iraq War movie Sand Castle.
He’s represented by United Agents in the U.K. and WME.
