Warner Bros. has hooked veteran animation director Chris McKay for their upcoming sequel, LEGO MOVIE 2. The original Lego movie directors, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are handing the reins over to the animation director and editor. McKay is no stranger to animation but usually works in TV, directing shows like “Robot Chicken” and “Moral Orel,” winning an Emmy for his work on “Robot Chicken.”
The story for the film is being kept under wraps but will definitely be a sequel and is being penned by Jared Stern & Michelle Morgan. Although Warner Bros. is looking to do a spin off of the franchise that would follow Ninjago, it looks like that’s still further down the line.
The first Lego movie has made $361 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing movie of the year so far.
The original “Lego Movie” took 4 years to make and if he’s going to stick with the anticipated release date of May 26, 2017, McKay better get cracking.
McKay is repped by UTA.
