Chris Pine will play Robert F. Kennedy in a new limited series in early development at Hulu, Tracking Board has confirmed.
The Good Wife writer Todd E. Kessler is writing and executive producing the untitled project, which hails from Overbrook Entertainment and Sony Pictures TV Studios.
The project will be based on Bobby Kennedy: The Making Of A Liberal Icon, the biography written by Larry Tye.
The book was published in 2016 and utilized unpublished memoirs, unreleased government files, and new papers that had previously been under lock and key for forty years to paint a previously unseen portrait of the charismatic politician who was assassinated in 1968 in the midst of his presidential campaign. The author also conduced new interviews with Kennedy’s widow, Ethel, sister Jean and his aide John Siegenthaler.
This would mark Pine’s second foray into TV as he recently signed on for One Day She’ll Darken, a six-part miniseries for TNT that reteams him with his Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.
This would also mark the second time Hulu is delving into the Kennedys, previously airing Stephen King adaptation 11.22.63, which followed James Franco as a time-traveler who becomes determined to stop the JFK assassniation.
On the Bobby Kennedy front, Matt Damon is also set to play the politician, in RFK, the long-gestating biopic from Warner Bros which just added Nikolaj Arcel as director.
