Sir Ian McKellen, Danny DeVito and Sylvester Stallone have signed on to lend their vocal talents to ANIMAL CRACKERS. The animated family film follows a workaholic dad who inherits a rundown circus. He discovers a magical box of animal crackers that gives him the ability to become any animal from the box. Scott Christian Sava and Tony Bancroft are directing from a script penned by Sava and Dean Lorey. Rounding out the cast are Patrick Warburton, Gilbert Gottfried, Raven Symone, Harvey Fierstein, James Arnold Taylor, Tara Strong, and Lydia Taylor.
Although McKellen is best known for playing Magneto in the X-Men franchise and Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings franchise, he’s no stranger to animation. McKellen has previously lent his voice to animated projects like Sprung! The Magic Roundabout, Doogal, and Flushed Away. His upcoming projects include The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Bill Condon’s Mr. Holmes. McKellen currently stars alongside Derek Jacobi in the British TV series Vicious.
DeVito has also had voice roles galore in films like Space Jam, Hercules, and The Lorax. In between filming the hit comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, DeVito produced Scott Frank’s crime drama A Walk Among the Tombstones and starred in Michael Johnson’s drama All the Wilderness. Next up, DeVito is directing the thriller St. Sebastian and is reprising his role as Vincent Benedict for the Twins sequel Triplets.
Stallone is of course best known for his macho action roles in both the Rocky and Rambo franchises, and lately for his roles in Grudge Match and The Expendables franchise. He has also voiced the role of Weaver in DreamWorks’ Antz. Stallone is next set to appear in John Herzfeld’s drama Reach Me and is also writing and directing another Rambo installment titled Rambo: Last Blood.
