How’s this for a delicious pairing? Two-time Oscar nominee Ian McKellen and Oscar winner Helen Mirren are set to star in a new thriller from Bill Condon titled THE GOOD LIAR that is set up at New Line, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Based on the novel by Nicholas Searle, the story follows a career con artist (McKellen) who finds his next mark in a wealthy widow (Mirren) whom he meets online. She takes him into her home and as she opens her life to him, he finds himself starting to care for her… but not all is what it seems in this cat-and-mouse game.
Condon will direct from a script by Jeffrey Hatcher, who also wrote Condon and McKellen’s 2015 film Mr. Holmes. Condon will also produce with Greg Yolen, while Jack Morrissey will executive produce alongside Aaron L. Gilbert and Jason Cloth of Bron Creative, which is co-financing the film — their first with New Line.
The Good Liar sparked a bidding war when it was released in 2016 and offers rich material for McKellen to sink his teeth into. It’ll be his fourth time working with Condon following their collaborations on Gods and Monsters, the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, and the aforementioned Mr. Holmes.
Mirren recently starred in the horror movie Winchester and will next be seen in Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
CAA represents Mirren and McKellen, who is also repped by Independent Talent Group. Condon is repped by WME and Anonymous Content, while Bron is repped by Endeavor Content. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
