In a multi-studio bidding war for the holidays, Universal has come out on top. The studio has acquired the rights to Tim Story’s spec HUMBUG, a modern retelling of Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. Ice Cube is set to star as a real estate tycoon who is shown the wickedness of his ways on Christmas Eve by three spirits.
The project was originally set up at Relativity, and now UTA has packaged the deal to move away from the former studio, and Universal won it in what has been reported as a high six-figure deal for the rights and much more for those involved.
All involved are repped by UTA.
