Idris Elba announced that both he and Tom Hiddleston will be appearing in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The duo play Heimdall and Loki in the Marvel Universe, appearing together in Thor and Thor: The Dark World. Age of Ultron, which is set to premiere May 1 of next year, centers on Tony Stark as he tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, but things go wrong and it is up to the Avengers to stop Ultron from enacting his terrible plans. Elba and Hiddleston join Marvel mainstays Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Andy Serkis, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner, among many others.
Elba has moved away from his TV roots lately, appearing in big screen action/sci-fi films like Prometheus and Pacific Rim. Elba is probably still best known, though, for his roles on series like The Wire, The Office, and Luther. His upcoming projects include voice roles in Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book and Finding Dory, as well as live action roles in Pierre Morel’s crime drama The Gunman with Sean Penn and action flick Bastille Day.
Hiddleston’s Loki has a bit more screen time than Elba’s Heimdall. He has appeared as the villain in Thor and Thor: The Dark World, as well as the first Avengers film. Aside from Age of Ultron, Hiddleston will next star in the Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light and Guillermo del Toro’s horror flick Crimson Peak.
