Fresh off of his Screen Actors Guild win for supporting actor in Beasts of No Nation, Idris Elba may have found his next starring role in THE MOUNTAIN BETWEEN US at Fox 2000. Based on the novel by Charles Martin, the story follows the romance between a surgeon and a woman who are stranded in the mountain wilderness after a plane crash.
The Luther actor is currently in talks for the male lead. He would be stepping in for Charlie Hunnam who was previously attached opposite Rosamund Pike, who has also left the project. Chris Weitz wrote the most recent draft of the script which was had previous drafts penned by J. Mills Goodloe and Scott Frank. Hany Abu-Assad is set to direct the film, while Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing under the Chernin Entertainment banner.
Elba can be seen as the villain Krall in Star Trek Beyond, the third installment of the rebooted franchise. He’ll be featured as the voice Shere Khan in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Jungle Book and will also lend his voice to Finding Dory.
